Building a Semenawa Scene

With Specimen & Knot Really Dead

This is not a class about pain. It’s a class about presence, intention, and the art of emotional torment through rope.

Semenawa—translated loosely as “torment rope”—is not just a set of techniques, but a practice rooted in emotional awareness, deep communication, and a desire to feel. This workshop is designed for riggers and bottoms ready to take their scenes into more vulnerable, intense, and connective territory.

🧷 Workshop Overview

This class will introduce and unpack the foundations of building a semenawa scene—emotionally, psychologically, and physically. We will explore:

How to communicate intentions and emotional states

The why of torment, not just the how

Ties and transitions that are designed to elicit emotional and psychological responses

The difference between pain and torment—and how to invite the latter through intentional rope play

This class builds on the previous day’s “Mechanics of a Gote” workshop. While alternatives to the gote may be discussed, the tie will not be demoed in other forms.

📚 Prerequisites

This is an intermediate to advanced level class. Participants must have prior experience with:

-Gote / box tie / TK (this should not be your first time tying or being tied in one)

✨ Extra notes

Semenawa is an elusive word—more concept than category. In this class, we approach it as a framework of connection: physical, emotional, and psychological. We’ll explore what it means to torment with care, how to tie with intention, and how to create space for vulnerability, fear, arousal, and surrender. Specimen and Knot Really Dead bring their lived rope dynamic into the room to guide participants in crafting powerful scenes that go beyond the surface.
